Visual Design & User Interface

Planta is an app that helps plant parents confidently grow and care for their plants. Planta guides plant lovers to expand their plant collection and keep their plants healthy and happy with useful care tips and watering reminders.

Research & Exploration

User interviews

In order to build empathy with users and gain a deep understanding of their behavior and needs, I conducted three interviews. I asked the interviewees questions about their living situation, why they like to have plants in their homes, how they currently manage to care for them and whether they have any frustrations with this.

The main users of houseplants are young people and full-time workers. They wanted to keep houseplants in the home as well as the workplace also.

Age group: 25 to 55 years

Research Synthesis

After the interviews, I grouped and categorized the data into an Affinity Map which enabled me to have a clearer understanding of the users’ needs, goals, and motivations.

Research Insights

  • Need proper reminder settings that users can customize.
  • Details to represent the overall health of their plant babies.
  • Lack of awareness that in what stage of the danger their plants are
  • Keep on forgetting watering due to their busy lifestyle and different schedules for each plant.
  • Lack of knowledge on how to give proper care to plants.
  • Some are not aware of any applications and their functionality.

User Persona

Creating a user persona helps to understand user expectations, concerns, and motivations. I took the qualitative data from the interviews and turned it into a tangible persona.

The next step was doing a low-fi sketch based on the user flow. Here quickly incorporated my brainstorming ideas into wireframes, and outlined the different screens within the app.
